6 tips to care for your contact lenses effectively

Contact lenses allow users to correct eye vision without experiencing the discomfort that comes with glasses. They are convenient and obstruction free, as your scope of vision broadens. This is in sheer contrast to glasses, as its frame constantly obstructs the side view. However, contact lenses demand more care than glasses. If you also wear contacts and wish to learn ways to take care of them in order to avoid infections and eye problems, you can adhere to the following tips.

  • Even if you have bought one of the best contact lenses for yourself, you still need to take proper care of them. You need to avoid doing things that can interfere with their performance. For example, you should be very careful while handling contact lenses. Before you take them out of the case, make sure you wash your hands and dry them properly. This prevents dirt or dust from the hands from settling on the lenses. In addition to this, make sure you don’t use any soap that contains lotions, as it can leave an oily film on the contact lenses.
  • Follow cleaning and disinfecting instructions on the label for storing your contact lenses. You shouldn’t use any solution other than the recommended lens solution, as it helps to prolong the life of contact lenses. You should prepare a fresh solution every time you store your lenses and make sure that the tip of the bottle doesn’t touch any surface. You must clean the case regularly and change it every two months or so. To ensure that lenses are properly disinfected, store them for at least 4 hours in their case before using them again.
  • Taking out contact lenses and putting them again is tough but you must do it to keep your eyes healthy and your contacts safe. When you remove your lenses frequently, your corneas get oxygen that they require for being healthy. Before you dive in a swimming pool, never forget to take off your contact lenses or else you will experience discomfort or might get infections.
  • If you suffer from allergies, you need to be extra cautious. As allergens stick to the lenses and make allergy symptoms worse, you are advised to discontinue wearing contact lenses for some time. If you don’t wear glasses, make sure to clean your contacts more often.
  • If you wear contact lenses and you love eye makeup, you need to take some precautions for making your eyes look and feel good. You should always wear your contact lenses before you apply eye makeup. Use only non-allergenic eye makeup products, which you can easily get from good brands. Avoid using powder eyeshadows, as they can get into eyes. You can use water-based cream eyeshadows to be on the safer side. If, in case, you use powder eyeshadow, make sure you don’t open your eyes in between. Once you are done applying the eyeshadow, safely remove the excess powder using a brush. Do not use eyeliner between your lashes but only on the part that is away from your eye. Before you start removing your eye makeup, take out your lenses with clean hands.
  • Quality of the contact lenses that you wear is of paramount importance for a perfect vision. Therefore, grab only the best contact lenses that are high in quality and can serve your eye condition well. Whenever you store them, make sure they are completely immersed in the solution. Never use tap water to clean your lenses, as chemicals present in the water can infect your eye. The more you care about your contact lenses, the better they serve your purpose.
